Store Report and Fit Review: Down For A Run Jacket, Down For A RunPullover, Down For A Run Vest, Face The Frost 1/2 Zip

I felt really rushed this morning and overwhelmed with so many choices so I think I need to go back later today and try some pieces on again. I need to try the Green Vest on again because I think I want to see how I like in a size up, or in another color. I definitely want to try on the jacket in white.

Down For A Run Pullover  $168  TTS 10
This is my TTS 10 and it fits roomier than the down run items from the past two years. I normally find them really snug in the hip and in the shoulders but this year definitely has more wiggle room and was easier to pull over my head than years past. I was really expecting not to like these but I fell in love with the black pullover. The Black Swan would have had my heart with the combo of dark purple with a rose gold zipper but I just didn't love the light contrasted RULU panels on it. The black just looked so much more slimming with the none tonal panels.

The butt flap in the back wasn't super great over my 'curvy' butt and I wish they had given this pullover the same back that the Down For A Run Jacket has with the quilting and scooped hem but the flap wasn't a total deal breaker for me. I'm not sure why the flap isn't symetrical though. Although I do love the green I'm not loving it in this glyde fabric for some reason so I just stuck with Black and Black Swan.

Down For A Run Jacket $198 TTS 10
I also really loved the Down For A Run Jacket and especially loved the back quilting design. I wish I had also tried on the white but I looked at it and worried that I'd never keep it clean so why bother trying it on. Now that I'm home I wish I'd just looked at it at least. This was also a surprising TTS. I always find these down run jackets so snug around my hips that this felt downright loose. It wasn't loose, but it felt surprisingly unrestrictive. I'm having such a hard time choosing between the pullover above and this jacket. Both are great! I think the jacket is more versatile since you can outfit it better while the black pullover is more commitment to wearing a black pullover with no contrasting color showing to break it up. I'd also never wear the pullover out running since it is so warm, but I do see myself wearing it as a To/From to the gym and worn casually. Especially to soccer practice since it's become so cold here suddenly.

I really loved the black quilting on it. I found it so flattering and such a nice cut. I wish they combined the front of the pullover with the back of this jacket. That would have made it 100% perfect.

Update: I got to try the white one.

Down For A Run Vest $138, tight TTS 10
I didn't like the vest, maybe because it was green and didn't look very slimming on me. The ed that was working today was trying it on in black and it looked amazing on her (plus she's very thin, tall and blond so there is that). I just didn't feel tempted by this one at all. It was also snugger fitting than the other two pieces and squashed my bust down quite a bit.
The back didn't lay quite nicely over my hips/butt area.

The lighter contrast panels, although really pretty, just aren't very slimming on me.

Face The Frost 1/2 Zip $108
I accidentally grabbed this in a size down which would normally not be a problem for me in a stretchy pullover but because this is tech fleece it lacked the stretch that luon has and it was tight going over my head and my shoulders. Once on it was comfortable and looked nice but I definitely needed my TTS in this and would even possibly consider a size up, just because of the lack of stretch. This came in black and Ultraviolet (I think that's Ultraviolet - TEVI). Tender Violet!

    1. Never mind, I see the price on the post, missed it before.

    2. The green is gorgeous, I just didn't love the lighter panels on it. I think it will look stunning on most people but I need to try it on again in a size up. It looked way better on the ed than it did on me so perhaps that made me less warm to it on me.

    3. I noticed after you posted about the squishing your boobs down. I'll have to size up. Maybe I'll actually just run to the store and try it on first. I like the lighter panels but I think the same color panels is much more slimming.

  3. Doesn't TEVI = Tender Violet? I thought I saw somewhere that they were bringing that color back.

  4. Love the down pullover and jacket on you! The black swan looks so good on you. Did the jacket also cme in black swan?

    1. Thanks!! I had a hard time choosing between black and black swan. I ended up basing my choice on which was most slimming. It was a close tie though.
Jacket only comes in white and black.

  5. Did you buy anything? I love the pullover but you are right the butt flap will be unfortunate on a lot of body types I have zero hips but a big butt and I don't think it'll be flattering on my body type either :( unfortunate since black grape (swan) is one of my favourite colours

    1. I had decision fatigue so have to think on it but I'm leaning towards either the black pullover or black jacket, but I need to try the white jacket on to be 100% certain. Plus I have to return some things if I want to get these because they are majorly wallet busting.

  6. I have the vest from 2 yrs ago I had to size up because it was so tight in the chest and was a bit long bodied for me I wear it but not that great! I got the pullover 2 yrs ago but have wore it once. It's rarely cold enough to run in it. I agree with the lighter panels I would pick the jacket but I don't run in down and not sure I like it enough for casual.

  7. I love those side panels.. they tend to help girls like me who need a bit of help looking curvy. =) Most of this is out of my price range.. but It's nice to see some really cute pieces coming. I really like that face the frost half zip.

  8. I have Alberta lake Fluffed up vest from last year so this vest will be an easy pass for me. I'm loving Black grape though, so it the jacket comes in it I would definitely grab it

  9. SOOOOOOO cute. I find Lulu jackets SO snug--but glad to know this will fit TTS (I'm a curvy 10 who needs some butt coverage!)

  10. I got my pullover from last year and love it. I paid full price but I think it was like $148? I guess Lulu raised their prices on just about everything.....but it's cute!

  11. I was only interested in the pullover, so thanks for pointing out the asymmetrical back slit and saving me some money! What a weird design choice, particularly since most women that work out have some level of ass back there!

  12. The piece I am most interested in is the white jacket. I have the polar cream jacket from a few years ago and I actually don't find it too hard to keep clean and it is fairly easy to wash too. I think because of the glyde fabric it doesn't get dirty as easily. I love the quilted back of the jacket. I really don't need another down jacket from lulu as I already have three others but I might not be able to resist!!

  13. Was there rulu or fleece or something soft inside the neck of the jacket and does it zip up for a high neckline? How do you think it compares with the What the Fluff?

  14. Oh dear. I am in so much trouble. I love everything! LOL Thank you so much for the try-ons. I am obsessed with green lately so that vest has to come home with me, slimming or not. I agree with you I like the quilting on the back of the jacket as opposed to the slit back of the pullover. But, I like the curved hem on the front of the pullover. Decisions, decisions. I probably don't need another half-zip, but I do like that tender violet shade.

  15. What colours did the vest come in? Thanks

  16. That is NOT a 1/2 ZIP! Half zip tops have the zip ending under the bust. This is a 1/4 zip! Grr. Half zips rule. Quarter zips drool.

  17. Thanks for your reviews, Cristina (sp?). I bought 2 of the flurry fighter pullovers last year (tech fleece), so I'm wondering if you know whether the tender violet pullover is the same fabric? Thx

    1. It is the same fabric but I'm not sure how it compares in feel since i didn't buy last years and am going on memory. It is generally the same though but there is always variations in the same fabrics.

  18. I have the WTF from a couple of years ago in bright yellow. Looks the same as this new pullover. The slit in the back always gets tucked up when i pull it on. I have had complete strangers straighten it for me. I love the coat but it has to be around 10 degrees or below for me to wear. I also have last years tech fleece pullover. It's really warm. I love the coffins in this one. I hope to see some mittens and gloves. I am not interested in anything as I already have two down pullovers but...I would highly recommend them.

  19. Are the jacket colors just black and white? And the pullover just black and black grape? I want a jacket in black grape or green or some color!

    1. So far just black and white for the jacket. Teal and black for the vest and purple, black and teal for the pullover.

  20. I liked the pullover on you (and the jacket) though I agree the pullover front and jacket back combined would have been perfect. How warm is it? Like suitable to - 15C or so? I'm in Alberta, so we get colder than you.

    1. It depends on how you are using it. If you are using it as a run piece as it is intended to be then I think it's warm enough. When you are running you are conducting a lot of body heat and this insulates it. I think if you are considering this as a warm winter jacket or a to/from piece it may not be warm enough for you. For me I will be using it as a to/from to the gym in the mornings and for soccer practice outside with my kids but I don't think it's warm enough for the coldest winter days in BC if I'm just standing around outside or going for a leisurely walk.

  21. I love the green but like lululover, I have the Alberta Lake fluffed up vest from last year so do not need another green vest. I would consider it on md and no so sure about the side panels in a different material. I would likely buy the jacket if it came in green. I see the jacket is just in black and white but LLL sometimes release more colours later so it would not surprise me if they did. I will not rush to buy the jacket. I almost got the fluffed up vest in Boom Juice last year but then Alberta Lake came out, which I much prefer. AL my all time favourite LLL colour.

The pullover is unfortunate with the slit in the back. That's a miss in the design.

I don't care for the fleece half zip. Will wait on a nice rulu one with nice interior finishes as well.

  22. Timely review. Thanks Lulumum! May I ask you and the readers about the fit of the base runner pants. Do they lose shape quickly around the backside/thighs. Are people who sometimes wear a lower size, sizing down?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I am in love with my Base Runners from this year. I got them in my TTS and they do not loose shape as they are RULU and not cotton terry. I ended up buying a second pair in my size down for when I loose another 10lbs but returned them today because it felt too luxurious having a spare pair. If they go on sale I will definitely pick up a second. I think if you are between two sizes you can safely size down to your lower size.

  23. Thanks for the review on the pullover which I am interested in. The slit in the back might be a deal breaker. Can you tell me if the pullover and jacket have cuffins? It doesn't look like it and that would be a deal breaker as well. Also, what did you think of the neck on the jacket, is it high enough and snug to keep the neck warm? Thanks!

  24. I ran to the store and bought the green vest in a size 12. It skims perfectly. I probably could have gone down to a 10 but I want to be able to wear a pullover under it. Its gorgeous and I love the pockets in the side for anything you need to carry! I also bought the kanto vest in ultra violet on mark down for spring for golf. the back is perfect for swinging.

  25. Thank you LLM for the fit review! I have What the Fluff pullovers in yellow and polar cream and love them, and have been stalking ebay for a black one which I so regret no getting. Now is my chance! :)

Question - do the pullovers have thumbholes like the old versions? Also - it looks like no thumbholes for the jacket? Thank you!

  26. I think the pullover and jacket (especially the white one that shows quite a bit of fabric pulling) would look better if you size up. :)

  27. @lulumum I'm torn between the black grape and black... But in some of the photos and lighting the black grape looks very purple and shiny.... Is the black more matte?
