Digitally Printed Fabric and Deep Sea Speed Wunder Under Tight

I'm trying to get more of an elaborate scoop on this whole Deep Sea 'digitally printed fabric'. The pants online don't reference this 'digitally printed' detail but it written on the hang tag. Some eds seem to have been told about this technology while others haven't heard about it yet. From what I've heard (thanks to reader Ms. A), Lululemon is now printing *some* prints directly onto fabric to create uniformity (lines that match up across size runs) and to have a more flattering print distribution. As you can see in these Speed Wunder Tights, the print is lightest at the bottom, and darker in the upper legs and butt, and contoured. What I want to know is if Lululemon will do this for all their prints and across different materials, or just some of their prints and at premium price tags. Any knowledgable educators here want to share some details on this?

  1. Lines used to match up in the past without this new digitally printed technology... I wonder if this is just another excuse to raise prices... Also a lot of the pants with stripes are actually textured and not printed... I can see the digitally printed technology may have a place in patterns such as the one above though if consistency is a problem with print placement normally with these kinds of prints.

    1. I think you're right about this technology being an excuse to raise prices. They tried the same technology justifies higher price angle with the tight stuff tight, too.

  2. Tried them on today in store - they weren't quite opaque and I can't imagine myself running or doing yoga in them as they didn't seem very breathable. At that point I could easily buy a pair of Werkshop crops (which I'm pretty sure lulu is attempting to rip off) for $88 in even more gorgeous patterns and better materials! $128 is an absolute joke. I think I'd pay *maximum* $50 for these.

    1. I was thinking the same, that they are probably attempting to rip off the Werkshop bottoms. They're also almost twice the price of the Werkshop ones! It is absolutely a joke. I honestly believe this is just another way for them to try to justify their ridiculous price increases.

    2. Totally agree, especially the Werkshop pattern called "aqua". It is very similar.

  3. Their competitors have been doing this better longer, and isn't LLL a little late to the game as far as the general trend is concerned? Like, a few years late at this point? I want opaque fabrics that wow for $128, and this particular style would be nicer if it retained some of the nice Speed details, like thigh pockets.

  4. I really like the pattern but I think if they're intended for yoga and running, they should have used thigh pockets and left out the back zipper.

    1. I agree. I wouldn't want zippered pockets on pants I wear for yoga. I'm also not a fan of Luxtreme for yoga, I like Luon for yoga because it holds my tops down, my tops ride up on Luxtreme bottoms.

  5. Lulu has tried this ombré effect with a pattern before, and the price wasn't raised. Remember the houndstooth print wunder under pant from nov/dec. 2014? It was black fading to gray houndstooth....the luon felt a bit different, too. I think they were luon and not luxtreme. Anyway, there was uniformity across pairs and the price wasn't raised....!

  6. I still don't think it costs enough to raise prices on already over priced pants. I'd also rather stick to other brands if I want fun prints!

  7. I got mine today, I was going to run in them in the morning but it's going to be too hot. Going to have to save them for another day.
