I'm doing a bit of window shopping tonight and I was alerted to this gorgeous vest on the Athleta website and it's making me want to return last weeks Down For It Vest. The Athleta vest is $148 USD which works out to about $195 CAD and ends up being a wash with the Lulu vest. The Athleta vest is 800-fill down and also water resistant, the lulu vest is 700-fill down and water resistant. Both the plum color and the mauve color appeals to me so I'm toying with ordering, however, I really wish we had an Athleta in Canada where I could easily try on or do returns. I'm not even sure what size I would take in this if I'm a 10 in Lululemon. Would I be a large or an extra large?
I like the downabout too. I think you should try a large size because I've found their sizes run a lil big. But be sure to read the helpful reviews.
ReplyDeleteI bought a pair of their metro pants and really like them too.
Ive ordered from there and I'm true to size for both tops and bottoms , and this is gorgeous
ReplyDeleteI am 5'1.5" tall and a 4 in Lululemon and purchased this vest from Athleta in XSP.
ReplyDeleteI am an 8/10 in lululemon and I got a medium in the athleta vest. I got the mauve and it's beautiful! I would get a large if you plan on layering something thicker underneath.
ReplyDeleteI would love if we had Athleta stores in Canada! I've never tried anything from there but would love to.
ReplyDeleteI really like that the Athleta Downabout vest has a more feminine detail and look to it than the Lulu Down For It vest. The Lulu vest looks more generic, plain, and unisex looking, but thats not necessarily a bad thing if looking for a plain vest. I am more drawn to feminine designs but sometimes I just want something more plain, so I guess depends what looking for at the time.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things I have always loved about Lululemon is the fit and used to have a hard time finding that fit elsewhere ( I say used to because honestly once I found Lululemon I very rarely looked anywhere else again and that was years and years ago!) I am really petite but curvy hourglass shape (bigger bust and bum for my size) and find Lululemon fit to work really well for me most of the time. Other brands I have a hard time finding stuff small enough while at same time still working with and flattering curves. With the way things have been going with Lululemon these days I am much more interested in looking into more brands and branching out, so love seeing these new brands on your blog Lulumum, thanks for sharing!
I personally prefer Down to it vest. I usually don't care for an asymmetric zipper. Lulu quality is still so much bette than Athletas. Also lulu keeps its re-sale value at about 75% of retail. Athleta or Underarmour will never sell for that
ReplyDeleteTrue that Athleta has no resale value, but I own several lulu and athleta vests and athleta quality in vests is way better in my opinion.
DeleteI disagree that Lulu's quality is better than Athleta's. I have many Athleta pieces that have held up just as well or better than my Lulu items. The stitching is always solid and even with no stray threads and the fabrics are heavy duty and hold up to wear. I'm loving Athleta even more now that Lulu's slacking on the leisurewear front. Athleta has a lot more cute jackets and sweaters available than Lulu does. I wear items like that to work so appreciate having a quality place to shop for those items.
DeleteYeah... Lulu of 2010 was better quality, but not today's Lulu. I recently started buying a ton of Athleta. I love it, and returns are super easy. Plus- petite sizes!! I think Athleta really upped their game with their recent Fall line. I like so many things!!!
DeleteI wear a 12 and take an XL
ReplyDeleteThe mauve is so pretty! I think the clothes run a little bit big, I usually get a small in Athleta and I'm a Lulu 6. So I agree with others, the large should fit you no problem.
ReplyDeleteAnother huge plus for Athleta is excellent customer service and that is awesome when you have returns. They don't give you any flak EVER about returning anything. And the multiple times I've been in a store they were really nice with my husband and 7 year old princess. So the employees are really great too:)
ReplyDeleteLarge. I'm a 6 in lulu and a Small in Athleta. With the exception of bras and speed shorts, I buy most of my stuff from Athleta rather than lulu lately.
ReplyDeleteThose are both such pretty colors! I don't need a vest but you've got me tempted right now. I'm the same as Anon 8:30 PM, 8/10 in Lulu and I usually buy medium at Athleta. But I like things to be fitted/snug so for layering I'd also recommend a large to you. I also need to applaud their amazing customer service and return policy. You can return an item at any time, even if you've worn it and found it didn't perform well. I'll admit I'm guilty of buying things and taking so long to make a decision about whether or not to keep it that I'll return items six months later (with the tags still on). I've never gotten any flak for it and the associates are always so friendly.
ReplyDeleteI tried this on at the store in plum and mauve. Unfortunately the arm holes are super small. Tried on the xxs and xs and both did not fit me at all so the body was just too poofy in both sizes. Bummer because it looks super cute. I can't see how you can wear anything underneath it and I don't have big arms or anything. I'm usually a size 4 in lulu. Sometimes I can fit a 2.
ReplyDeleteI like the look of the Athleta one better than the Down For It Vest especially the plum coloured one but it's hard to say without seeing it on you. The Athleta vest looks softer and more supple and has a more interesting design than the Down For It vest. Although I thought the Down For It vest look really nice on you there isin't anything interesting in the design. In the product pics I really do not like how the hood sits so high up and it's so big. If having a hood is important though than the Down For It should win out since the Athleta one doesn't have one.
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 4:39 AM: I totally agree with what you say! I don't know what is it, but every time I need to go return something at Lululemon makes me kind of nervous, because I always need to prepare to be questioned "why are you returning this", "what's your phone number", "is there anything wrong with it", I mean, come on, if the customers decide to not keep them, they must have their reasons, we don't just buy & return for fun. They even push me to get gift cards if I forget my credit card, or receipts, or past 14 days, or the credit card I was holding does not have the same last 4 digits. When I go return something at Gap or Old Navy, they don't even ask for my credit card, no questions asked, no sh*t face, period.
ReplyDeleteLulumum - The Athleta vest is way cuter than the lulu vest. The lulu one is so plain, it doesn't look like lulu anymore - no cute details. I haven't tried the Athleta vest on, but in other items I thought their sizes run large. I'm a 6 in lulu and usually wear a small at Athleta. I love the rose gold on the Athleta vests :) They are so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI'm anon 10:24. By better quality I meant better fabrics. My point is for a true hard core lulu fan it'll be harsh to convert to Athleta. It's not the same
ReplyDeleteI don't have this exact vest but one from Athleta from last year and I got mine in Medium. I'm a size 6-8 in Lulu. The medium fits well and has room for layering under.
ReplyDeleteThat mauve colour is gorgeous! I'll be in the US next week and will try it on in person :)
I just ordered the Athleta vest in two colors to try. I'm a 10 in lulu (could do 8 on top b/c have no boobs) so I ordered a M and a L. Will let you know which works out better! The colors are so rich, and I want everything in the fall line. Their designers really hit it out of the park this season.
