A few weeks ago I was watching one of my favourite UK vloggers on youtube and she was wearing these really awesome looking marble print leggings by Varley, a UK brand that also has a California warehouse. I had to give them a try so I hunted around for them a bit and found them in a few luxury retailers (Berdorf and Saks) Sadly, finding them in Canada is pretty limited but since I had a bit of USD cash I decided to splurge on them in the name of blog research. I now see that you can purchase them off Revolve which would have been an easier transaction for me (I'm an affiliate for them, FYI) Years ago when I got a pair of Fry Boots off Revolve they gave you a 30% discount on your first purchase. I'm not sure if that is still the case but I do know they have a 10% off discount if you sign up for their emails. If you are interested in trying this brand out I'd definitely contact Revolve and see what kind of discounts they offer for first time shoppers.
When I opened up my parcel this morning I gasped at the beauty of them. The material is very similar to Luxtreme but more silky, substantial and luxurious feeling. The print is very vibrant in person and it looks as if it had been printed on silk. I noticed that they are made in Portugal and after doing a bit of research this morning it turns out they are made in the same facility that Stella McCartney Adidas is made. It seems silly but the fact that these are made in Europe makes them feel a little more luxurious and like I've gotten better value for my $100 leggings vs other brands for the same price. The material is 'Italian Microfibre Compression Fabric' or Polyamide/Elastine. I find these pleasantly compressive and could easily wear these for both running distance and crossfit. The only problem with using these as a run pant is that there are no pockets, gel pockets or any of those bells and whistles but otherwise the fabric is highly technical, supportive and sweat wicking.
I am a TTS 10 in Lululemon and I ordered the large in these. The compression fabric feels snug but in the same way a Lululemon Tight Stuff Crops fit - so once on they are very comfortable and move with you but the fabric is slightly harder to pull on than say, luon wunder under crops.
The back of the fabric is white and the base of the print is white/light coloured so you would expect for them to be somewhat sheer but in my daylight squat test at home they are not sheer. I'd like to do another squat test in a fitting room with bright lights to verify but I think these are safely opaque for gym use.
These were definitely on the pricey side at $100 USD but not out of line with Lululemon pricing if you don't take the exchange rate for us Canadians into account. It's exciting to try a new brand that is not only very functional but also more in the 'luxury' category of athletic gear. I'm looking forward to trying out a top and a sports bra so if you are interested in seeing more from Varley let me know and I'll do more fit reviews.
They are lovely pants! I am curious, who is the favorite UK vlogger that you mention in the post?
ReplyDeleteViviannadoesmakeup. She did a blog post about new years resolution and fitness and she was wearing the full length leggings in the marble print with a black Varley tank top.
DeleteI'm not sure if you like the marble look specifically but I just got some great marble crops from Vie. They have thigh pockets (my favorite) and look so rad! Only downside, and I think it's a sizing issue, is the print stretches a bit around my butt. I think that's because they only had small left and I really need a medium. But they're comfortable on, look so cool, and hey, it's motivation to lose some weight!
ReplyDeleteExcited to receive mine- the owner of my studio ordered a bunch at the wholesale price for us- they look awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteI love those!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteThese look great, glad to hear they're not sheer. I have been eyeing them on hemm.ca. At 130 CAD, they're a bargain in Canada :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the detailed review. It's great to know about the quality and feel of the fabric. And you are right, there is added value that they are made in Europe. (Wish LLL still made their goods in Canada.)
ReplyDeleteThey look great on you LLM!
Those crops are amazing! If it weren't for our crappy dollar, I'd snag a pair! I don't forsee any US shopping for me anytime soon sadly...
ReplyDeleteI know, really. I drove to Blaine to pick them up this morning and didn't even buy a coffee while there. Just there and back across the border.
DeleteOh crap!! Pretty sure $100 just flew out of my wallet.
ReplyDeleteI love your nikes! ! What colour are those ones?
ReplyDeleteThanks! They are the Nike Pegasus 32's in Black (underlay is grey). I have another pair in light grey which I love more but those are pretty dirty these days.
DeleteOh I love the pegasus.
DeleteThey look amazing on you! Thanks for your review... I snagged a pair on Revolve. :) FYI, you can use the code TULIP for %10 off without signing up for emails.
ReplyDeleteThanks!! Glad you got a pair. Thanks so much for sharing the code.
DeleteThey look great on you!!! Thanks for doing this. How would you describe the rise? Is there a lulu pant rise u could compare them to? Hoping its on the higher side.
ReplyDeleteI totally forgot to write about the rise. Thanks for the reminder. They are 'mid rise' and pretty much the same as my Inspire Crops, or ever so slightly higher.
DeleteThose leggings look great on you! I want them :)
ReplyDeleteOMG i didn't realize that i ordered a Varley bra on sale on carbon38. They had a big sale so i ordered a bunch of stuff. No cups though, i'll have to add. :)
